How Websites Bring Value to Small and Local Businesses

Assaf Cohen on the SEO Rant Podcast

Did you know there was a great hardware store right around the corner from you? No? That's probably because they're a mom-and-pop store and might not have a website let alone a Google Business Profile.

Having a website is a must for every small and local business. Even if your customers prefer an in-store shopping experience, they're likely finding your business by searching online (when I say online I mean, Google).

For the record, this doesn't mean you simply spin up a site and take a picture of your menu and plop your phone number on your homepage. The site should reflect the quality of your brand.

At the same time, you need to set up a Google Business Profile. If you're a local business, this is a relatively easy thing to set up. Google will essentially walk you through it and the basic information you need to add is entirely straightforward. Not setting up your Google Business Profile is an incredibly large missed opportunity.

For the SEO professionals reading this... I think it's important to realize just how many businesses don't have a website (or have a website that is the equivalent of not having a website). This is especially true in various markets around the world and even in certain places within the US and the like.
